High Treason by DiAnn Mills

When Saudi Prince Omar bin Talal visits Houston to seek cancer treatment for his mother, an attempt on his life puts all agencies on high alert. FBI Special Agent Kord Davidson is the lead on the prince’s protective detail because of their long-standing friendship, but he’s surprised—and none too happy—when the CIA brings one of their operatives, Monica Alden, in on the task force after the assassination attempt.

Kord and Monica must quickly put aside interagency squabbles, however, when they learn the prince has additional motives for his visit—plans to promote stronger ties with the US and encourage economic growth and westernization in his own country. Plans that could easily incite a number of suspects both in the US and in countries hostile to Saudi Arabia. Worse yet, the would-be assassin always seems to be one step ahead of them, implicating someone close to the prince—or the investigation. But who would be willing to commit high treason, and can Kord and Monica stop them in time?

I just finished reading this book.  I didn't want to put it down.  I had to force myself to go to bed several nights in a row.  The intricacies of who was involved in the assassination plot against the plot was a well thought out plan.  Monica is thrust into a world where woman are seen and not heard so she has to tread lightly and still do her job.

Kord is searching for the meaning of life and Monica is trying to forgive herself for how she failed in her relationship with God.

This was a great book and I would recommend it to anyone who likes suspense.

Should Silas just build himself another house and let his mail-order family take over the one he’s got?

Homestead on the Range

But will their time together put them in a compromising situation that will threaten both of their good reputations?

The Sweetwater Bride
Debba McClain takes offense at being offered a wedding in exchange for valuable water rights. But she doesn’t like to see a good man’s cattle die of thirst—and the rancher Tanner Harden is rather handsome.

Texas Tea
Luke Reeves has gotten wealthy in the oil business and goes to visit his uncle to convince him to sign over the oil rights to his land. But when he meets his grown up adopted cousin Libby Cooper, he may be forced to give up one dream to win another.

Hope for Christmas
It might be 2016, but Montana is still a mighty rough place to survive the winter. When Silas Harden finds the very pregnant Kelsey Black in a wrecked car surrounded by a pack of wolves in the heart of a blizzard he takes her to his remote home. What will Silas do when the baby decides to come and Kelsey confesses why she was out in such a terrible storm?

This book did not disappoint. It was fun reading about the children and grandchildren of previous book characters.  It was a typical Mary Connealy book. Boy meets girl and they fall in love right away with all kinds of mishaps along the way.  Thoroughly enjoyed reading it.

A Soldiers Song by Irene Onorato

All Special Forces sergeant Jason Dexter ever wanted was to serve his country—with his father’s blessing. Although the elder Dexter has yet to make his peace with his son’s decision, Jason has no regrets. Still, he has mixed feelings about returning to his upstate New York town. But his perspective changes at a friend’s wedding, where he meets a lovely, gifted musician. Now Jason has a new mission: to get to know Aria Greco better.

The daughter of Jason’s commanding officer, Aria dreams of becoming a concert pianist. Meeting the handsome soldier transforms both their lives. But Aria’s ambition, Jason’s unresolved family conflicts, and jealousy over rivals on both sides soon threatens their blossoming relationship. As Jason prepares for a dangerous deployment, will the mounting tensions tear them apart, or is their love—and the faith they share—powerful enough to heal the past and embrace the future?

This was a nice clean romance story.  Jason is a new Christian trying to live his new life alcohol free.  His commander is well aware of Jason's problems and attempt to live a Christian life.  But he's not sure he wants his daughter falling in love with Jason.

A good example of how difficult our military families have it when their loved ones are called away at a moments notice.  I would recommend this book for everyone.

If I Live

Casey Cox is still on the run after being indicted for murder. The hunt that began with her bloody footprints escalates, and she’s running out of places to hide. Her face is all over the news, and her disguises are no longer enough. It’s only a matter of time before someone recognizes her.
Dylan Roberts, the investigator who once hunted her, is now her only hope. Terrifying attempts on Dylan’s life could force Casey out of hiding. The clock is ticking on both their lives, but exposing the real killers is more complicated than they knew. Amassing the evidence to convict their enemies draws Dylan and Casey together, but their relationship has consequences. Will one life have to be sacrificed to protect the other?

This is the continuing story of Casey Cox as she runs for her life from the persons responsible for her fathers death and that of her best friend.  I was reading up into the night to finish the book because I didn't wand to put it down.

The negative side to this series is that books one and two didn't end.  Casey is still on the run at the end of them.  I dislike that.  I want a book to finish.  This was one book split into three.

I would recommend getting all three books and reading them straight through.

The Countess and the Cowboy by Kathleen Y’Barbo

When Constance Spanner witnesses a murder, Branch Kilborn is tasked with protecting her until she can testify against Cass Markham. This is the Ranger squad’s chance to abolish the Markham gang once and for all, but Branch soon finds that protecting Constance has become about more than just the job.

This was a fun read.  Kind of far fetched as each Texas Ranger fell in love almost overnight.   These Texas Rangers were the best shots and just about the best of everything.

I recommend this to everyone who enjoys and quick fun read.

My Heart Belongs in San Francisco

When Abby Effingham becomes stranded in the middle of the California gold rush, her money depletes quickly even while her prospects for marriage increase daily. But Abby is on a mission to find her mother—not romance. Will a ridiculous scandal keep her from traveling on, or will it wake up an aloof innkeeper to the treasure right under his roof?

Samuel Harris runs a moderately priced hotel where Abby and her family’s elderly butler find shelter. He is looking forward to when she—and her parade of suitors—move on, though he concedes to let her work in his restaurant. When the sassy socialite is in trouble, will Samuel come to her rescue or find himself alone?

I found this book to be disappointing.  I have read lots of other books by Janice Thompson and I didn't think this one was near as good.  The story line was very good and I liked the characters.  Flaws and all.  But every situation called for a scripture verse and then it was expounded on. Don't get me wrong,  I'm a Christian and there is a scripture for all our situations.  The book probably could have been a novella if not for what I felt was filler.

Kill Shot

As the ballistics and weapon's expert for the FBI's special task force nicknamed the White Knights, Rick Cannon has known the Department of Defense was developing self-steering bullets. Rick feared these smart bullets--which have one hundred percent accuracy that can turn even a novice into a lethal sniper--would eventually end up in the hands of the wrong people. But since the ammunition was still in the development stage, he figured they had plenty of time before that happened. He was wrong. Dead wrong.

Until they become reality.

When a homeless vet is killed with a smart bullet, it's clear that the ammunition has been stolen, and the Knights are called in to find the thief and stop the killings. But they aren't the only ones desperate to find the killer. Therapist Olivia Dobbs is well known for her success in counseling military veterans with PTSD. When she discovers one of her clients moments after he is murdered, she becomes both the FBI's prime witness, and suspect.

Despite the mutual attraction that immediately sparks between them, Rick can't--no he won't--let Olivia interfere with his investigation. But when the sniper trains his rifle on her, Rick must recall all the skills he learned as a Marine sniper to make sure the next bullet fired isn't a kill shot that takes Olivia out.

What a great book.  There were twist and turns everywhere.  I had a lot of trouble putting it down.  I enjoyed it so much that I bought the first book in the series.  I didn't feel it was necessary to read the first book to understand the second book.  I just wanted to read it as Kill Shot was such a good book.  I look forward to reading more books by Susan Sleeman.
