The Blizzard Bride by Susanne Dietze

Abigail Bracey arrives in Nebraska in January 1888 to teach school…and to execute a task for the government: to identify a student as the hidden son of a murderous counterfeiter—the man who killed her father.

Agent Dashiell Lassiter doesn’t want his childhood sweetheart Abby on this dangerous job, especially when he learns the counterfeiter is now searching for his son, too, and he’ll destroy anyone in his way. Now Dash must follow Abby to Nebraska to protect her…if she’ll let him within two feet of her. She’s still angry he didn’t fight to marry her six years ago, and he never told her the real reason he left her.

All Dash wants is to protect Abby, but when a horrifying blizzard sweeps over them, can Abby and Dash set aside the pain from their pasts and work together to catch a counterfeiter and protect his son—if they survive the storm?

I had trouble getting into this book.  I found myself skimming parts of it.  It had an interesting story line.  But I just couldn't get into it.  The last fourth of the book got interesting and kept me reading.  I hate to give bad reviews.  But I will be giving this book two stars.

Collateral Damage by Lynette Eason

Honorably discharged from the Army after an explosion nearly killed her, former military psychiatrist Brooke Adams has set up shop to help others--but her days of helping military personnel are over. She's got her own battles to fight from her time overseas, and she's not equipped to take on more. Former Army Special Ops Sergeant First Class Asher James could handle anything that war sent his way--terrorists, bombs, bullets. The only thing that scares him now is sleep. As the shadows close in, the nightmares begin.

Finally convinced that he needs help, Asher makes an appointment with a counselor, and Brooke is pressed by her boss to take him on. When he arrives at her office she isn't there--but a dead body is. Brooke is devastated when she walks in, and Asher is a conveniently strong shoulder to cry on. But she can't take him on as a client after sharing such an intimate and unprofessional moment, can she? And he's not sure he can handle sharing his deepest fears with such a beautiful woman.

When it becomes clear that Brooke was the real target of the attack--and that her secrets go even deeper than his own--Asher vows to protect her no matter what.

This is another great book by Ms. Eason.  A great suspense that kept me reading long after I should have gone to bed.  Both Asher and Brooke suffer from PTSD.  Asher finally knows he needs help with his PTSD and makes an appointment with a counselor. I liked how we were shown what happened to Brooke and Asher to cause their PTSD.

As Brooke is running for her life, she is trying to figure out who is after her.  Asher is doing everything in his power to protect her.  They discover that a traitor is after them and it stems from the time they were in Afghanistan.

I highly recommend this book to all who like suspense.

The Major's Daughter by Regina Jennings

Caroline Adams returns to Indian Territory after tiring of confining society life. She wants adventure, and when she and her friend Amber come across swaggering outlaw Frisco Smith, they find his dreams for the new territory are very persuasive. With the much-anticipated land run pending, they may just join the rush.

Growing up parentless, all Frisco Smith wanted was a place to call his own. It's no wonder that he fought to open the Unassigned Lands. After years of sneaking across the border, he's even managed to put in a dugout house on a hidden piece of property he's poised to claim.

When the gun sounds, everyone's best plans are thrown out the window in the chaos of the run. Caroline and Frisco soon find themselves battling over a claim--and both dig in their heels. Settling the rightful ownership will bring these two closer than they ever expected and change their ideas of what a true home looks like.

All Caroline wants to do is establish her independence and find out where she belongs.  The only way she can think of to do that is claim a piece of land in the Unassigned Lands.  The problem with that is she claims land that Frisco Smith has been wanting to build a city on.  They both won't give an inch on who the land belongs to.  As Caroline works her claim, she discovers things are not as they seem in the nearby town.  Frisco is still trying to get Carolyn to give up her land.  In the mean time, he is also trying to get to the bottom of things in the new town.

Overall, this was a good book.  I thought it was kind of slow in spots. But still a good book and worth the read.

End Game by Rachel Dylan

When elite members of the military are murdered on the streets of Washington, DC, FBI Special Agent Bailey Ryan and NCIS Special Agent Marco Agostini must work together to bring the perpetrator to justice. Unfortunately, all evidence points to a Navy SEAL sniper whom Bailey refuses to believe is guilty.

When Bailey and Marco start to connect the dots between the victims, including a link to a powerful defense contractor, they wonder if there's a deeper cover-up at play. Then Bailey is targeted, and it becomes clear that someone is willing to kill to keep their dark secrets.

With the stakes getting higher by the moment in a twisted conspiracy, there's a rush against the clock to determine whom they can really trust. As allies turn to enemies, the biggest secret yet to be uncovered could be the end of all of them.

Another great book by Ms. Dylan.  I had to force myself to go to bed instead of read.  The suspense just kept going.  Bailey and Marco join forces to catch the person responsible for the murders of a Seal, Ranger, and a seemingly unrelated person.  Then someone starts trying to kill Bailey.  Only she doesn't know what information she has worth killing for.

I recommend this book to those who like suspense.  Be warned, you won't want to put it down either.  I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

The Way of the Brave by Susan May Warren

Former pararescue jumper Orion Starr is haunted by the memory of a rescue gone wrong. He may be living alone in Alaska now, but the pain of his failure--and his injuries--has followed him there from Afghanistan. He has no desire to join Hamilton Jones's elite rescue team, but he also can't shirk his duty when the call comes in to rescue three lost climbers on Denali.

Former CIA profiler and psychiatrist Jenny Calhoun's yearly extreme challenge with her best friends is her only escape from the guilt that has sunk its claws into her. As a consultant during a top-secret mission to root out the Taliban, she green-lighted an operation that ended in ambush and lives lost. When her cathartic climb on Denali turns deadly, she'll be forced to trust her life and the lives of her friends to the most dangerous of heroes--the man she nearly killed.

Her skills and his experience are exactly what's needed to prevent another tragedy--but in order to truly set Orion free from his painful past, Jenny will have to reveal hers. They'll have to put their wounds behind them to survive, but at what cost?

I enjoyed the edge of your seat action at every turn.  At every turn Jenny has a mountain to overcome literally.  She is trying to forget her past mistake when people were killed because she gave the go ahead for a mission that ended in disaster. Orion wants to find out who is responsible for the mission that cost him his career and the lives of his friends.  He has become a hermit in Alaska.  That is until Hamilton Jones asks him to lead a mountain climb.  He knew Jenny was that time.  But as JC.  He doesn't know the part she played in the mission.

The only part I didn't particularly care for was the bedroom scene near the end of the book.  Nothing happened.  But it almost did.  I realize temptation is always there, but I didn't think it was necessary to the book.

Overall all, I recommend this book to all who like lots of action.
