Until Leaves Fall in Paris by Sarah Sundin

As the Nazis march toward Paris in 1940, American ballerina Lucie Girard buys her favorite English-language bookstore to allow the Jewish owners to escape. Lucie struggles to run Green Leaf Books due to oppressive German laws and harsh conditions, but she finds a way to aid the resistance by passing secret messages between the pages of her books.

Widower Paul Aubrey wants nothing more than to return to the States with his little girl, but the US Army convinces him to keep his factory running and obtain military information from his German customers. As the war rages on, Paul offers his own resistance by sabotaging his product and hiding British airmen in his factory. After they meet in the bookstore, Paul and Lucie are drawn to each other, but she rejects him when she discovers he sells to the Germans. And for Paul to win her trust would mean betraying his mission.

My review:  I found this book to be very good.  It seemed a little slow paced at first.  But once I got into it it picked up and I couldn't put it down.  The first part of the book was setting the scene for the rest of the book.  Ms. Sundin seems to get into how bad things were in France during the Nazi occupation without going into much detail.  How Lucie was always hungry, and Paul always had the best.  The trials of their escape from France kept me reading.

I recommend this book to all who love history, mystery, and a little romance thrown in.

Following the Trail by Lynette Eason

Lacey Jefferson’s search for her missing sister quickly turns into a murder investigation—thrusting Lacey and her search-and-rescue K-9, Scarlett, into a killer’s sights. Now teaming up with her ex-boyfriend, Sheriff Creed Payne, is the only way to discover the murderer’s identity. But can they survive long enough to dig up the truth?

My review:  This book starts out fast and keeps going.  Lacey returns to her hometown to look for her sister.  She'd only been there a few hours when she and her K-9 dog are called upon to search for a missing child.  While doing that, Scarlett, her dog discovers a body.  It's her sister.  Ex-boyfriend Creed wants her to stay in town and start a K-9 unit for his Sheriff's department.  She agrees only as long as it takes to find the killer of her sister.

Overall, it was a good book.  I enjoyed the story line and the characters.  I would recommend this book to all who enjoy a good mystery.

Lost in Darkness by Michelle Griep

Travel writer Amelia Balfour’s dream of touring Egypt is halted when she receives news of a revolutionary new surgery for her grotesquely disfigured brother. This could change everything, and it does. . .in the worst possible way

Surgeon Graham Lambert has suspicions about the doctor he’s gone into practice with, but he can’t stop him from operating on Amelia’s brother. Will he be too late to prevent the man’s death? Or to reveal his true feelings for Amelia before she sails to Cairo?

My review: I found this book to be slow moving and dark.  I've read other books by Ms. Griep and enjoyed them.  This one not so much.

Amelia wants to travel Egypt but there's a new procedure her late father had discovered that might help him be able to live a normal life.  Graham wants to be part of a practice by he has reservations about the dr he's in practice with.

The Heart of a Cowboy by Jody Hedlund

Brilliant scientist Linnea Newberry is on the adventure of a lifetime, traveling the Santa Fe Trail with her grandfather, Dr. Howell, on a botanical expedition to Colorado Territory. She longs to be valued for her contributions and not seen as a helpless liability. But at every calamity she faces, her grandfather threatens to send her home.

After watching his ma suffer and die in childbirth, Flynn McQuaid has sworn off women and marriage forever. Headed west to start a new life, he has his hands full not only taking care of his younger siblings but also delivering cattle to his older brother. He doesn't need more complications.

When Flynn rescues Linnea from drowning during a river crossing, Dr. Howell promptly
hires Flynn--unbeknownst to Linnea--to act as her bodyguard for the rest of the trip. As
Flynn fights against the many dangers of the trail, he soon finds himself in the greatest danger of all falling for a woman he's determined not to love.

My review:  I had trouble getting into this book.  Maybe I just wasn't in the right frame of mind when I read this book.  It seemed that Linnea was always having to be rescued by Flynn.  She didn't want her grandfather to find out about all the mishaps because he would send her back.  Flynn was the typical cowboy of the time.

Life Flight by Lynette Eason

EMS helicopter pilot Penny Carlton is used to high stress situations, but being forced to land on a mountain in a raging storm with a critical patient--and a serial killer on the loose--tests her skills and her nerve to the limit. She survives with FBI Special Agent Holt Satterfield's help. But she's not out of the woods yet.

In the ensuing days, Penny finds herself under attack. And when news reaches Holt that he may not have gotten his man after all, it will take all he and Penny have to catch a killer--before he catches one of them.

My review:  This book starts out with Penny transporting a critically injured teen to the hospital.  She is forced to land due to a storm in the mountains.  Unknown to her a serial killer is on the loose.  Holt is sent in to rescue those on the helicopter and to look for the serial killer.  They are rescued but now the serial killer has Penny in his sites as his next victim.  Holt races again time to find the killer before Penny is the next victim.

This is a very fast paced mystery.  I recommend it to all who love a great mystery.

Sunrise by Susan May Warren

Pilot Dodge Kingston has always been the heir to Sky King Ranch. But after a terrible family fight, he left to become a pararescue jumper. A decade later, he's headed home to the destiny that awaits him.

That's not all that's waiting for Dodge. His childhood best friend and former flame, Echo Yazzie, is a true Alaskan--a homesteader, dogsledder, and research guide for the DNR. Most of all, she's living a life Dodge knows could get her killed. One of these days she's going to get lost in the woods again, and his worst fear is that he won't be there to find her.

When one of Echo's fellow researchers goes missing, Echo sets out to find her, despite a blizzard, a rogue grizzly haunting the woods, and the biting cold. Plus, there's more than just the regular dangers of the Alaskan forests stalking her.

My review:  Dodge returns home when his father is in a plane crash and can't fly which means he will loose his business.  Going back home is the last thing he wants to do.  Echo is Dodge's best friend and former girlfriend.   One fateful night ten years ago it all changes.  This is the story of Dodge and Echo's journey to find love again and forgiveness.

I had trouble putting this book down.  There's no great mystery in this book.  But it's a great story and I recommend it to everyone. We were given a little teaser about the next book in the series.  Can't wait to read it.
