Inga Klein is ask to go to Germany to serve as secretary to the American Ambassador on the brink of WWI. She feels she owes it to the ambassador as he assisted her and her family when the immigrated from Germany when she was a child. When Inga gets to Germany she meets Benedict Kincaid. He is the diplomatic chief of staff. They are complete opposites. He is very straight laced and severe. Inga is fun loving and outgoing. They both struggle with their jobs trying to keep one step ahead of the was. When it is discovered that Inga is not a US citizen and won't be allowed to leave Germany a marriage of convenience is suggested so she can leave as the spouse of an American citizen.
I enjoyed reading Inga and Benedict's story as well as being reminded about some of the back history to the US involvement in WWI. This was a good book and I would recommend.
I received this book from Bethany House Publishing via Net/Galley in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated in any way.
