The Edge of Dusk by Colleen Coble

 Another great book by Colleen Coble.  We are back in Rock Harbor and it's great to revisit some of the people who live there.  

Annie Penderson is a law enforcement ranger who takes her job very seriously.  She is also a widow with a young daughter.  She is living with the nightmare of her sister that disappeared twenty-four years ago. She has never stopped looking for her.  Her current case is a death and several mysterious occurrences that have happened.  

Jon Dustan returns to town to help his dad who's had a stroke.  Jon and Annie were engaged at one time. With Jon's help, Annie tracks down leads.  While all this is going on Annie finds out that her daughter has a serious illness.  

This is a very good book and I highly recommend it.  I look forward to more stories about Annie and Jon.

Code of Courage by Janice Cantore

Danni Grace is a police detective who have been injured in the line of duty during a riot that calls for the disbanding of the police.  While she is recuperating an activist is shot and killed.  She's had enough and decides to quit.  She changes her mind with the help of her ex husband, Gabe Fox.  

This book could be taken right out of today's headlines.  It was a very good book and kept me reading.  It also saddened me because it was right out of the headlines.  I would like to read more about Danni and Gabe.  I hope there will be a follow up book or two.

Critical Alliance by Elizabeth Goddard

Mackenzie Hanson returns to Montana when she receives a cryptic message from a former friend.  When she gets home she finds her brother dead and her sister terrified.  Her brother and sister are owners of a cyber security company and they are under cyberattack.  Mackenzie is a professor of cybersecurity at a university.  She puts all her knowledge in trying to discover who is behind it.  Alex Knight is on vacation from Diplomatic Security Services.  Mackenzie is also hiding a juvenile record that if exposed would finish her career. 

There are lots of twists and turns in this book.  I highly recommend this book.

The View from Coral Cove by Amy Clipston

This book is a good book to take to the beach or set by a roaring fire.  The characters are fun and the little girl is really sweet.  Maya returns to Coral Cove to take over the business she inherited.  She meets a little girl, Ashlyn, who insists she needs a kitten.  So, of course, she now has a kitten.  Ashlyn's father is the local veterinarian.  

I normally read mysteries, so this was a nice change of pace.

When the Meadows Bloom by Ann H. Gabhart

I had trouble getting through this book.  It started out slow and, in my opinion, never picked up.  The main character, Rose, has TB and has to put her daughters in an orphanage while she goes to a sanitarium.  Then we find out that the girls are mistreated.  Rose contacts her brother in law to see if he can help.  I thought the book might pick up there.  But I was still bored.  It did have a happy ever after ending.

I have read books by this author previously and enjoyed them.  This one not so much.

Among the Innocent by Mary Alford

This book grabbed my attention at the beginning and never let go.  Leah Millers entire Amish family was killed in front of her and she was left for dead.  Years later she returns as a policewoman.  It seems the murders are starting all over again in the same way as her family's.  But how can that be when the murderer was caught and is dead.  The new police chief, Dalton Cooper, doesn't believe the correct person was arrested all those years ago.  Dalton and Lisa both have to learn to forgive themselves for what they perceive as their fault for things that was done in the past.

This book will keep you guessing all the way to the end.  There are surprises at every turn.  I recommend this book to all who enjoy a good mystery.

Elysium Tide by James R. Hannibal

This is my first book by this author.  It won't be the last one I read by him.   At first the story started out slow and I wasn't sure I would like the book.  The farther along I got into it, the more I was hooked.  Peter is a very good neurosurgeon, and he knows it.  He's to the point of being arrogant about it.  His supervisor sends him to Hawaii for a conference so he can relax and destress.  Lisa is a detective who recently worked for Los Angeles police force.  She's now in charge of the gang division.  Peter and Lisa clash when Peter tries to save the life of a drowning victim.  Eventually Lisa sees the value of Peters help.  Lisa has trouble at work also as there is resentment to her being there and her position not given to someone in the ranks.  Peter is an atheist who is having his beliefs challenged by those around him.  There is no real preaching in this book.  But it talks about leaning on God to get through the tough times and where are final destination lies.  

I recommend this book to all who like a good mystery.
