Derek was never a fan of former bad girl Brooklyn Myers, but he made a promise to his dying friend that he would be the father to Alycia that Chad had never been.

Although Derek and Brooklyn get off to a bumpy start, he and Alycia quickly form a bond. And soon, Derek realizes that he wants Brooklyn to trust him too . . .  even knowing that her trust won’t come easily. And then he realizes he wants even more than her trust. He wants to win her love.

While Brooklyn may be tempted to give her heart to Derek, risking her daughter’s happiness is another story. Will Brooklyn hold onto her self-reliance for dear life, or will she come to understand that the greatest gift she can give her daughter is showing her how to love and trust others?

This book deals with trust.  Brooklyn has no reason to trust anyone.  Life experiences has taught her she cant' trust anyone.  The only one she can rely on is herself.  Derek blames Brooklyn for the change in Chad when they started dating.  So when she moves back to town, he doesn't want anything to do with her.  The problem is she has inherited the property he was hoped to buy for his organic farm.  Brooklyn and Derek have to establish trust before they can move on with any type of friendship.

I recommend this book to everyone.  I thoroughly enjoyed it.
 

Threads of Suspicion by Dee Henderson

Evie Blackwell's reputation as a top investigator for the Illinois State Police has landed her an appointment to the governor's new Missing Persons Task Force. This elite investigative team is launched with plenty of public fanfare. The governor has made this initiative a high priority, so they will have to produce results--and quickly.

Evie and her new partner, David Marshal, are assigned to a pair of unrelated cases in suburban Chicago, and while both involve persons now missing for several years, the cases couldn't be more different. While Evie opens old wounds in a close-knit neighborhood to find a missing college student, David searches for a private investigator working for a high-powered client.

With a deep conviction that "justice for all" truly matters, Evie and David are unrelenting in their search for the truth. But Evie must also find answers to the questions that lie just beneath the surface in her personal life.

Evie is investigating the disappearance of a college student.  As she digs dipper into the mystery,  she finds a connections to several other missing young girls.  Also, there seems to be a connection to David's personal life.  David's missing person involves a missing PI.  Is there a connection between the two disappearances?

God plays an important part in the characters lives.  David show Evie it's important to pray for small things as well as big things.  

There is a lot of details in the book.  Some of them were interesting.  Others not so much.  It was a good book.  But I prefer the older writing style of Ms. Henderson.  Will I read more books by Ms. Henderson?  Absolutely.  I m looking forward to the next installment in this series.

A Matter of Trust by Susan May Warren

More, when she insists on joining the search, he'll have to keep her safe while finding her reckless brother, a recipe for disaster when a snowstorm hits the mountain.

But old sparks relight as they search for the missing snowboarder--and suddenly, they are faced with emotions neither can deny. But when Ella's secret is revealed, can they learn to trust each other--even when disaster happens again?

Another winner.  Gage has to save the brother of the woman who betrayed him.  Also, the only woman he's ever loved.  He sees history repeating itself all over again.  This is about Gage and Ella trying to come to terms with the past and moving forward with their lives.  Ella has to forgive herself for prosecuting Gage and keeping secrets from him.

I learned alot about snowboarding during the reading of this book.  I can't say that is a sport I would want to pursue.

I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

This is the second book in the "If I Run" series by Terri Blackstock.  It is important that you read the first book to understand this one.  Casey is still on the run from the crooked cops that framed her for murder.  In this book we find Casey searching for the God that Dylan has told her about.  Without God Dylan would have called it quits a long time ago.  He suffers from PTSD.  AWt the end of the book Casey is still on the run.  This is the only negative thing about this series.  The books don't end. 
The story itself wraps up.  But Casey is still on the run.  So, therefore, if you want to see how the story ends you have to read the next book.  I dislike books like that. 

If you are a fan of Terri Blackstock you will enjoy this book. 

Deep Extraction by DiAnn Mills

The story starts with the death of Nathan Moore from an apparent heart attack.  Come to find out he was murdered when someone messes with his pace maker.  Enter FBI Special Agent Tori Templeton.  Not only is she an FBI agent she is a close friend with Sally Moore, the wife of the deceased Nathan Moore.  The "yardman", Cole Jeffers, is called to come to the house by Nathan's son.  Come to find out Cole is on leave from the US Marshalls.  He asks to be reinstated and attached to the task force that is investigating the death of Nathan Moore. As the story progresses, information comes to light that Nathan wasn't near as nice of person as everyone thought.  Therefore, there are lots of suspects.

Tori is struggling to find the faith of her deceased brother.  She promised him on his death bed that she would go to church.  Cole is a believer and is fighting his attraction to Tori. 

This is the second FBI Task Force Novel.  It is not necessary to read the first book to enjoy and understand this one.  I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good whodunit.

Robin Caroll has written another award winning book.  It started out a little slow but picked up as it went along.  The Dutchman's lost gold mine has been written about for years and many people have gone looking for the gold.  This book tells the tale of greed leading to murder.  Then murder attempts on the heroine and hero.  You'll have to read the book to see if they find the gold mine.   I highly recommend you read the book.

I'm not sure what to think of this book.  It was nothing like I was expecting.  It was an eye opener about sexual abuse and it's consequences to the victims.  I would suggest that everyone read this book to get a greater understanding and empathy for sex abuse victims.  Only with God's help were the characters able to overcome the trauma.  This is so in real life as well.
